Family holiday memories are some of the most precious we have. On Île de Ré, they become even more memorable.

Discover this paradise for outdoor sports and leisure with the whole family. A thousand and one adventures, on land and at sea, will provide you with magical family moments full of wonder.

A thousand and one adventures

Culture and nature on Île de Ré

One of the most fun ways to discover the island as a family is to explore the different facets of its natural ecosystem: seaside, salt marshes, forests, village centres and cultural sites, all an integral part of this island destination.

At the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve, our guides and eco-guards offer guided tours and activities throughout the year, depending on the weather. Shore fishing, discovery safaris, birdwatching and other daytime and night-time guided visits are all fascinating and educational.

For a family adventure, download the following apps:

  • Terra Aventura: for geocaching treasure hunts in Loix and Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré
  • ONF Découvertes: for connected trails in the villages of La Couarde-sur-Mer and Les Portes-en-Ré.

Curious minds will find plenty to do, with visits to heritage sites and museums all over the island. Learn about Île de Ré’s captivating history, maritime tradition and biodiversity.

Throughout the year, educational workshops are organised by museums, multimedia libraries (médiathèques) and associations, helping children develop their creativity through fun activities!

Île de Ré is a family destination par excellence. Recognised by the ‘Famille Plus’ quality label since 2019, the destination welcomes families and offers high quality family-friendly services.

Sport and leisure on land and at sea

Île de Ré’s island charm attracts those who love water sports and beach activities even outside the summer months. Head for the beaches in Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, La Couarde-sur-Mer, Saint-Clément-des-Baleines or Les Portes-en-Ré for surfing, kitesurfing, sailing and other exciting water sports.

Beginners can try their hand at the many courses on offer all year round. In the summer, you can even try parasailing at Saint-Martin-de-Ré.

Experience the joys of the sea on a boat! There are many options on Île de Ré for those who love boat trips.

Experience the joys of sport on the multi-sports grounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, and at the skate parks in all the island’s villages. Each village also has a children’s playground nearby.

The mini-golf at Saint-Martin-de-Ré will delight the whole family and can be combined with some delicious food in the heart of the village.

Family-friendly leisure activities for all

Those who love adventure can go to one of the many escape games and learn more about the island.

Île de Ré keeps the whole family happy by combining sport, culture and nature on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.

In the evening, to round off the day in style, take part in the many events organised in the ten villages from April to October: themed parties, funfairs, festivals, concerts, theatre, open-air cinema and more.

   An island of gourmet pleasures

A visit to Île de Ré would not be complete without trying local food and flavours.

Bistros, restaurants, ice-cream stands and oyster huts are all perfect ways to sample local specialities, as well as family-friendly food workshops and guided tours to learn about local produce.

The tourist office’s ‘food routes’ are a pleasant way to explore the island by bicycle and meet local salt producers, oyster farmers and winegrowers. Île de Ré has much more to offer than seafood. Enjoy honey, biscuits, beer and coffee, available throughout the island.
