Maritime adventures of Nicolas Baudin" exhibition

It's the story of a hectic life, that of a man who trained in the Royal Navy but left it to sail as a merchant. It's the story of a man who embarks on the American War of Independence, of a sailor taken prisoner who, for a time, serves the Austrian crown. These are the ocean adventures of a self-taught naturalist who conceived a crazy circumnavigation project, and was listened to by Bonaparte, who entrusted him with the less ambitious but equally vital mission of reconnoitring the Southern Lands. This exhibition is also the story of this expedition, with its clear scientific objectives, combined with unofficial political and economic goals. It's the story of 42 months of life and trials for the Geographer and the Naturalist. It is a reminder of a considerable achievement for the natural and human sciences. Considered an important figure in Australia, on a par with Matthew Flinders and James Cook, Nicolas Baudin is nevertheless little-known to the French public. This exhibition is also, and perhaps above all, an opportunity to restore him to his rightful place in maritime history.
