Journey into Île de Ré’s past at Musée du Platin in La Flotte. The museum’s exhibitions bring the island’s fascinating maritime history and local traditions to life.

At a glance

Immerse yourself in daily life on Île de Ré in the past. Marvel at the undeniable charm of the museum’s truly fascinating location.

A journey through time

Once a distillery, then a fire station, Musée du Platin opened its doors to visitors in 1986 with the aim of introducing visitors to the maritime heritage and traditions of Île de Ré, thanks to a unique collection of historical clothing, photographs and furniture.

Over four floors, appreciate the historical treasures on display reflecting the identity of Île de Ré.

A fascinating place for visitors keen to learn about the island, it is highly recommended for families and children.

Start at Musée du Platin when visiting Île de Ré

Ideally, visit Musée du Platin as soon as you arrive on Île de Ré.

After crossing the bridge, park at Sablanceaux and head for the landing stage where the ferry used to arrive and depart before the bridge was opened in 1988. Continue on to Abbaye des Châteliers, just before the village of La Flotte, and soak up the majestic ruins of the abbey.

Finally, visit Musée du Platin to understand the importance of these two heritage sites and learn even more about the island’s history.

Did you know?

Musée du Platin perfectly complements the exhibition at Musée Ernest Cognacq (in Saint-Martin-de-Ré), which explores the history of Île de Ré.

Activities from April to October

Musée du Platin offers a wide range of activities for all ages, including a treasure hunt.

Or why not take a guided tour to learn about oyster farming, or to discover the village of La Flotte, designated as one of France’s ‘Most Beautiful Villages’, or Abbaye des Châteliers, which is just outside the village?

During the holiday season, there is always a reason to (Ré)visit Musée du Platin.
