Located in Loix, L’Atelier Quillet is one of the last companies of its kind in France to work on book restoration, bookbinding and comprise an antique bookshop. It was awarded the ‘Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant’ (‘Living Heritage Company’) quality label in 2007.

With a total surface area of 2,000 m², this unique site has a book restoration area, and a large antique bookshop dedicated to books and comics, with a specific area entirely dedicated to posters and other iconographic documents.

At a glance

The bookshop covers 400 m², and has a surprisingly diverse range of books and documents.

A must-see for the whole family, it has an exceptional collection of over 100,000 antique and used books, dating from the 16th century to the present day.

Conserving and showcasing literary treasures

The books are carefully classified by theme and by room on topics such as history, seafaring, travel, literature, children’s literature, science, nature, esotericism, cooking, fine art, eroticism, sport… One section is specially dedicated to Île de Ré and island life.

A place for reading enthusiasts and collectors of all ages, the bookshop has a vast selection of 30,000 comic books and children’s books, including first editions, complete book series, graphic novels, mangas… There is an abundance of books for everyone!

The bookshop showcases many vintage and modern posters, on a wide variety of themes, as well as maps, charts, engravings, paintings… with a document restoration and packaging service.

A café littéraire

To complete the experience, take time to enjoy the warm atmosphere in the café littéraire. Enjoy a coffee, made by a Loix barista, or a hot chocolate for those with a sweet tooth, an artisan fruit juice or a local beer, accompanied by homemade cakes or shortbread.

The café littéraire is open during the day and in the evening for cultural events. It is an original, unusual place for a break after a walk in the marshes, or to spend quality time with friends.

Did you know?

There are no fewer than 30,000 comic books in the bookshop. The whole site covers a surface area of almost 2,000 m².

So many activities in such a small space

In addition to the bookshop and book restoration area, L’Atelier Quillet holds many events throughout the year.

There are numerous exhibitions, theatre performances and other activities. Courses are also organised to teach you specific skills and learn how to bind books.

Since spring 2024, L’Atelier Quillet has offered a customised framing service, which you can discover on site along with advice and support from our teams.
