Discover l'Huitrière with a passionate oyster farmer: explanations of the trade, demonstration of oyster opening and presentation of a small reconstructed production scene. The visit ends with 6 oysters and a glass of white wine from the Ile de Ré.
Immerse yourself in the world of oyster farming in Rennes with a guided tour led by one of our oyster farmers. For around 30 minutes, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at l'Huitrière: a fascinating profession, punctuated by the tides and know-how handed down through the generations.
On site, the oyster farmer explains how oysters are born, raised and matured in our Martray oyster beds. You'll discover the tools, the daily gestures, and all the essential stages of production. A small reconstructed production scene allows you to visualize the oyster cycle from birth to plate.
Then it's time to get hands-on: the oyster farmer demonstrates how to open oysters, shares his tips and tricks with you, and everyone can try their hand at opening one using the equipment provided. It's a fun, friendly experience, perfect for young and old alike.
The visit ends with a tasting of 6 oysters, accompanied by a glass of white wine from the Ile de Ré. A chance to savor the fruits of your labor, in the simple, authentic atmosphere for which l'Huitrière de Ré is renowned.
Whether you're with family, friends or staying on the island, this visit is a real immersion in Ré's maritime heritage. An experience not to be missed during your stay in Ars-en-Ré.
