Description
As part of the national ‘Mai à Vélo’ campaign, the Île de Ré Community of Communes is organising a day dedicated to cycling, learning to ride a bike and sustainable transport on Friday 29 May 2026 in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré.
Through three free events open to the public, the CdC aims to encourage residents and visitors to make cycling part of their daily lives.
A MORNING SESSION ON HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR BIKE
The day will begin with a bike repair workshop, taking place from 9.30am to 10.30am at Place d’Antioche in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré. Led by Vélopoldine, this workshop will enable participants to learn the basics of maintenance and common repairs: punctures, changing inner tubes, adjusting brakes…
Following this workshop, a bike repair drop-in session will be available to help users get their bikes back in working order or make any necessary adjustments before the summer season.
A FRIENDLY 15 KM BIKE RIDE
In the afternoon, participants are invited to hop on their bikes for a guided ride with “À Vélo Sophie”, setting off from Place d’Antioche at 2.30 pm. This 15-kilometre loop, suitable for ages 8 and over, offers a different way to discover the landscapes and cycle routes in a relaxed atmosphere. The ride will last approximately two hours.
PROMOTING SOFT MOBILITY ON THE ÎLE DE RÉ
Through its participation in Mai à Vélo, the Community of Communes is continuing its commitment to sustainable mobility and the development of cycling in the region. These events are part of an effort to raise awareness among all members of the public of the benefits of cycling, both for daily commutes and for leisure.

• 9.30am – 10.30am: bike repair workshop
• 10.30am – 1pm: bike repair service by Vélopoldine
