A family in low-carbon mode

Distance: 23 km by bus – 1 hour / 3.5 km on foot – 40 minutes accumulated over the day

Once you’ve arrived at La Rochelle station, a one-hour bus ride will take you to Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the historic capital of the Ile de Ré. Organized around its port and protected by its fortified Vauban ramparts, this village is a must-see for locals and visitors alike.

After a gourmet lunch, a guided tour of the UNESCO-listed fortifications will take your mind off everyday life. You can then spend the afternoon playing mini-golf as a family in the Barbette park overlooking the sea, or depending on the weather, discover the many activities for children and the exhibitions retracing the history of the island in the Ernest Cognacq Museum… or relax in the Aquaré water park.

Distance: approx. 15 km by bike – 1 hour total for the day

A fifteen-minute bike ride will take you to La Flotte, a village classified as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”. The Musée du Platin offers a wide range of activities for children, enabling them to discover the arts and traditions of the Ile de Ré. Enough to make you a real expert!

To whet your appetite, a free visit to La Flotte’s medieval-inspired market is a must! This is followed by a lunch of local flavors in the heart of this flower-filled village.

Then cycle back to Fort La Prée, the oldest fortification on the Ile de Ré. Along the way, you’ll catch a glimpse of the Abbaye des Châteliers, the island’s oldest religious building and a witness to its history. On site, an escape game or treasure hunt will allow you to become real adventurers as you attack this fort with its many hiding places…

Distance: approx. 20 km by bike / 6.5 km on foot – between 2h and 3h / 23 km by bus – 1 hour

On this third and final day, you’ll be immersed in nature, in the heart of the salt marshes. To reach the salt marshes, take a 30-minute bike ride through an unspoilt natural area, where you’ll meet many of the marsh’s bird species.

Once there, the Tèrra Aventura “Ré, une note de mystère” treasure hunt on foot takes you on a 6.5 km circuit through the salt marshes, and teaches you more about the famous “white gold”.

If you find Zohéé, you’ve won! You’ll then have earned yourself a gourmet break in the square of the small village of Loix, in a family-run, committed restaurant. A festive, friendly atmosphere prevails.

And to round off your stay, don’t miss a guided tour of the “L’Abeille de Ré” honey factory, where you’ll learn all about the fabulous world of bees, and take back some anecdotes and memories in your suitcases!
